My name is Ebony Brewer, and I'm 25 years old. I am currently majoring in International Studies with an Asian focus. I am also minoring in Japanese. I have a beautiful one year old son, and my dream is to visit South Korea.

In response to the claim, " Writing is a technology through which writers create and recreate meaning," I would first like to say I agree. Unlike other forms of expression, writers have complete control of the reality that is the universe they create with their words. There is nothing within a text that tells a reader that what has been written is not true, or did not actually occur. The only way we can know if a work is fact or fiction, is by relying on outside information.

This information may come from the reader's own prior knowledge, or it can be researched after the fact. But within a text itself, lives a different world, an alternate reality which exists within the confines of the medium in which it was published. In this universe, the writer is the sole creator able to, "create and recreate meaning," as they so choose.

It is because of this, that things in our society have been able to morph, and take on new meanings, even if that meaning is contradictory to the object's original creation. This is why writers must be ethical. The power of the pen can be perilous if wielded by propogandists.

Throughout this semester, I hope to gain a better understanding of how to write to move people. Writing is one of the most useful skills anyone could have. I want to be a better writer so I can be a better researcher, speaker, and person. I believe this class will teach me a lot about how to not just create, but also to analyze meaningful works, which will in turn allow me to get closer to the goals I have or myself.
